Dear reader,
Welcome to the Eagle’s Nest, AISJ’s High School news site.
Every creation around you was first a simple idea. Some ideas come from experimentation, some from endless nights of research, and some come from a feel-good TV show.
That was the case for this newspaper. If it weren’t for Rory Gilmore (Gilmore Girls) and her Yale Daily News, you might not be reading this right now. But a fictional college newspaper is not the only reason this project was able to come to life.
After becoming obsessed with starting a newspaper, I (hi, Maria here) started my quest for a teacher supervisor (spoiler alert: Ms Tokley got the job!). Having a teacher supervisor meant I had someone to share my ideas with, which opened many doors to creative and critical thinking.
After a lot of meetings, drafts and a summer break, I opened sign ups for anyone in the High School who was interested in joining this crazy new project. Last August, 24 students chose to embark on this adventure; to work collaboratively to provide the school with a platform to explore, create and share work. Our purpose is, in short, to entertain, inform and unite this community.
The Eagle’s Nest is a monthly news site-come-magazine that deals with topics relevant to the AISJ community, where global meets local, arts meet sports and where students get to know more about each other and the rest of the community.
Since August, I’m happy to say that the Eagle’s Nest has become a success and everything I hoped it would be. With our excellent turn out of almost 30 people in the team, we’ve been able to write up to 20 pieces each month, and soon you’ll be able to see it all in our very own website format. Until then, google sites it is!
The other four people who are introducing this newspaper to you are our Editor Student Leaders Kal and Lara, our Design leader, Viktorija and of course our Teacher Supervisor Ms Tokley. Thanks to them this introduction doesn’t have spelling or structural mistakes.
In short, you are receiving this news site thanks to 29 amazing students (and Ms Tokley) who now form the Eagle’s Nest team.
We hope the future editions of the Eagle’s Nest are an inviting and enriching read,
Enjoy!
