The 2020-21 Premier League season was filled with unpredictable games, protests, growing teams, and – despite the challenges of the pandemic – great football. In this article, we’ll be recapping the big 6 in the 20-21 season and the predictions for 21-22.

Manchester City

The champions of the Premier League didn’t seem as though they would win until near the end of last season. City started the season pretty slow but was able to pick themselves up after the Christmas break. In the end, they deserved the title because they worked hard and were consistent. I predict that in the new season with their new star signing Jack Grealish they will be able to maintain their dominance, but I don’t think it will be as easy as last year because of the new talent coming from the other teams. City will also have to fight with stronger teams for the Champions League title, however, I believe that Pep has more confidence after losing in last year’s final against Chelsea.

20-21: 1st place

21-22: 3rd

Manchester United

Manchester United came second last season. They started the season off a bit slow like the champions but were able to pick it back up with strength. They were 15th in week 7 but by week 11 in champions league football. By March, they were fighting for the title and getting close, but at the end of the season struggled to even maintain their second place. With the signing of the greatest footballer, they have an expectation to win a trophy, whether it is UCL or EPL. They will have a strong advantage with their forwards and will definitely be coming in as favourites.

20-21: 2nd place

21-22:2nd place

Liverpool

Liverpool had the most chaotic season out of all the teams. They came in as the champions of the 19-20 season and with a strong side, but quickly lost balance due to several injuries. Losing their star CB for the rest of the season and soon after the majority of their defenders, the team went from never losing at Anfield to struggling to get the point. Jurgen Klopp was still able to come out with a miracle and bring the team to finish 3rd place and secure Champions League football, which did not seem like an option even two months before the end of the season. What’s next for Liverpool? They went another transfer window without making any exciting buys and that might cost them if the team doesn’t stay fit but if they do, they could be title contenders.

20-21:3rd place

21-22:4th place

Chelsea

Chelsea was by far the most surprising team last season. They are, contrary to what the audience thought at the start of last season, the champions of Europe. They made great signings before then although some of them flopped, others came and improved the team’s depth, like Mendy and Silva. With Lampard, Chelsea didn’t really seem like they would accomplish much until they signed their new coach Thomas Tuchel, who came ready to win. He brought back confidence in the players and new methods, which led them to win the Champions League. I definitely see them winning the EPL this season with the momentum they have from winning UCL and their star signing Lukaku ready to come back and win; they could be a tough team to beat.

20-21: 4th place

21-22: 1st place

Tottenham

Tottenham didn’t really have a good season. They achieved the smallest, especially for a big 6 team which was in the Europa Conference League. The team obviously had high expectations after having appointed José Mourinho as their manager, but this quickly failed after the first half of the season, and they struggled to stay in the top 6. The players at the end of the season didn’t even seem like they had the confidence or passion to win, with their star player Kane actively trying to leave till the last days of the transfer. They have the ability to be a threat once again but need to work on their team.

20-21: 7th place

21-22: 7th place

Arsenal

Arsenal continuously struggled this season. Arteta honestly doesn’t seem to be doing anything right for the team. Last season the team was fighting in the bottom half of the table, almost like it wasn’t once unstoppable. They were able to slowly pick up strength and go from 15th in December to 9th in May. They truly fought to the last game, but they didn’t work hard enough to secure European football for the 21-22 season. Arsenal needs to do some major rebuilding this new season to bring back the strength they once had. Although they did sign a few new players this transfer window, it will take a great amount of dedication for them to go back to who they used to be. If they continue to struggle during the first half of the season, Arsenal will have to make big changes with their manager.
