Give a positive Cheer, for the New Year!

By Riya Deoghare (Writer and Editor)

It’s New Year! I can’t believe that 2022 has already shown up. Time seems to fly. When I think of New Year, the stressful but encouraging task that crosses my mind is that of a Resolution plan. In the past, I have found it extremely difficult to keep up with my New Year resolutions. However, this year, I was determined enough to research and find methods to keep up with them. The methods seem to be easy and feasible.

  1. Make your goals measurable
Abreviation of SMART //Examples

Planning resolutions like ‘I want to get healthier this year’ or ‘I want to be happier’ are vague, incomplete, and reasons for you to not keep up or lose interest. Instead, try planning something like ‘ I will hit the gym at least three times a week’ or ‘I will catch up with old friends and family twice a month.’

  1. Set goals based on your capabilities and identify clear action steps
Know your capabilities well //Learners

No one knows your parameters and limits better than you. Analyze your capabilities and make a plan that best suits you. Your goal should include objectives that will make a change and take actions (can be short-term or long) that help you get closer to accomplishment.

  1. Outline and organize your plans
Make a nice vision board //Working against gravity

Decide how to deal with some obvious obstacles, for example, overcoming temptations in your diet plan. This could be done by making a vision board, practicing positive thinking, and reminding yourself how your behavior will affect the goal. Make a pros and cons list and stay committed to your goal.

  1. Start when you are ready

It is not necessary to start implementing the goal from January 1st. Rather, that can prove to be a disadvantage. If you aren’t truly ready to shift your habits within a day, you aren’t likely to succeed. Start when you are confident about being consistent. But don’t be too late to start, else human tendency seems to wait for another ‘New Year’.

  1. Track your progress
Tracking your progress adds efficiency //Happy Healthy Strong You

You need to know if you’re headed in the right direction. So it’s important to find a way to track your progress. Use an app or a calendar to check off the days you work on your goal. When you’re able to see your progress and the results of the steps you’re taking, it can remind you of how far you’ve come and help you stay motivated.

  1. Reward yourself
Rewarding is a key //Productive club

This does not mean that you can take a whole week off your workout routine or eat large chunks of cake. Instead, treat yourself in a manner that does not contradict your resolution. Try to do something on a small scale and more often to stay prompt and committed.

  1. Stick to it and keep trying
Try try but don’t cry //Vector Stock

Experts say it takes about 21 days for a new activity to become a habit and six months for it to become part of your personality. All of it won’t happen overnight, so be persistent and patient. If you are losing your steam gradually, don’t despair. Recommit again and keep going. Believe in yourself, and you will find yourself at the top of the world.

If you’ve struggled to keep your resolutions in the past, like me, don’t lose hope. With a little extra planning and strategic work, you can change your habits, and ultimately your lifestyle. Commit to making this year the year that your resolution is going to stick around and make a difference.
